Common Issues

Blank / Intermittent / Faded LCD

This is a well-known issue with the 2005-2013 C6 Corvette HVAC Controller. Age, heat and vibration can cause bulbs and solder joints to fail, wires to break and connectors to lose spring tension.

Heat and sunlight can also cause the polarizing film on your HVAC controller to fade, making the data on the LCD screen harder and harder to read, and eventually appearing blank. We have developed a process to replace the polarizing film and factory graphics on your HVAC Controller LCD panel.

  • The Blue-White background lights up when the ignition is on

  • The LCD can't be read as easily as it once could, or the info has faded completely

  • The LCD info can be seen through polarized sunglasses, or through our test strip (email sales@batee.com for a free test strip).

 

Blend Door and Actuator Drive Circuitry

The 2005-2013 C6 HVAC controller uses electrically driven actuators and servos to actuate the various functions of the air handling box including vent selection and hot/cold blend door functions.

  • Lead-free solder used by the factory can cause premature failure of high-current connections, as well as connections which support heavy circuitry. We re-solder these connections with lead-bearing solder.

  • Shorted actuators can destroy the output driver circuitry in the controller. We will test everything before it ships back!


Dark Buttons / LCD Info

We replace all bulbs in the C6 HVAC Controller as a part of our standard electrical rebuild service.  Bulbs illuminate the LCD panel and the controller buttons and knobs.

 

The Testing We Do Here At BATEE

  • Free inspection of the instrument panel internals

  • Bench test of all functions:

    • We test all inputs to, and outputs from the C6 HVAC Controller, including temperature senders, Sun load sensors, drivers and passenger blend door actuators, mode and recirc actuators, blower control module, and heated seat outputs.

    • Test for intermittent LCD and button operation

    • We test the Lighting and Dimming functions of the HVAC panel

  • Complete cleaning inside the cluster, including the LCD contacts, LCD panels, lens and light diffuser

  • We test the repaired HVAC Controller for 24 hours before we return your component

 

Pricing

A standard electrical rebuild is $349.95 + return shipping.  These repairs are the most common needed for the 2005-2013 C6 Corvette HVAC Controller module.  This includes:

  • The testing outlined above.

  • Rebuild LCD panel display circuitry and replace polarizing film if needed

  • Resolder the wiring harness connectors and other high-current electronics like the actuator outputs

  • Replace LCD and button face illumination bulbs

  • 24 hour burn-in test on each input and output

  • 1 year warranty on parts and labor

  • This is not an exchange service. Your HVAC Controller will be returned to you, along with the parts we replace!

When your controller arrives, we will diagnose it at no charge, then contact you with photos of the problem and an exact repair total, then wait for your approval before making any repairs.

 

A Note About Cosmetics

Faceplate wear is common among these units.  Currently there are no replacement faceplates, knobs or buttons available, other than purchasing a donor controller.  As the demand increases, these components will likely become available.  If you want the physical appearance of your buttons or faceplate restored, just let us know!
